We are looking to recruit an experienced Head of Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E) to join our diverse motorway services operation covering retail, catering, food production and fuel functions across a number of sites. Reporting to our Operations Director the role will be to shape and lead on our HS&E strategy across our business. The successful applicant will be responsible for defining the strategic direction including promoting and embedding a culture of HS&E awareness and compliance, and developing the groups approach to compliance monitoring, assurance reporting and risk management.
Key accountabilities for this role will include;
Developing and implementing strategies to monitor and report on HS&E across the group, including promoting and embedding a culture of health and safety awareness and the development of improved policies, procedures, systems and processes, targeted communications and identification and delivery of the required learning and development activities to address knowledge gaps.
Be able to lead, motivate and engage with operational teams to ensure delivery of the groupâ€™s overall strategic objectives and that we maintain compliance with legislative requirements and company policies.
Provide regular assurance to senior stakeholders, including the board regarding the groupâ€™s health and safety obligations, highlighting trends, issues and potential risks for review at regular performance meetings and to input into decision making as required.
To develop and manage relevant budgets ensuring effective financial planning and forecasting takes place to deliver the HS&E Strategy, and robust controls are in place to monitor spend and produce financial reporting as required to senior stakeholders.
Building relationships with stakeholders and other Regulatory Bodies and Local Authorities, influencing, negotiating and building constructive working relationships.
The successful applicant must have experience managing, motivating and influencing teams at a senior level. Significant experience of health, safety and environment management within a multi-site organisation. In-depth understanding of health and safety legislation and government regulations. Previously developed and implemented Health and Safety policies and processes within a large organisation. Experience of monitoring and reporting on health and safety compliance across a diverse multi-site operation. Produced reports for senior leadership teams, including Board level. Comprehensive understanding of risk management and compliance. Previous experience of successfully managing budgets in line with agreed financial protocols. Effective stakeholder management, both internally and external to the organisation. Also have membership of a professional body e.g. IOSH
