The Westmorland Family of businesses are all firmly connected to their place. It is a tradition which started the day that farmers Barbara and John Dunning opened Tebay Services, and has continued as we have grown and opened the Tebay Services Hotel, Rheged and Gloucester Services.

In essence, we are food businesses, with quality, locally-sourced food at the very heart. Tebay Services Hotel is very different to what you would normally find just off the motorway in a tranquil and secluded location with stunning views over the fells. We combine contemporary design with carefully selected local products that reflect our values. 


This is an exciting 1 year level 2 apprenticeship Chef opportunity with potential to continue to a second year and level 3 qualification


- Mainly working in the hotel cooking high quality restaurant food you will also be able to get an insight into different types of cooking, from mass catering- preparing food to serve our customers at Tebay Services to conference catering and mass production at Rheged


- You will gain a strong insight into where all our ingredients come from, including all our meat off the Family farm, which comes to our on-site Butchery.


- You will have exposure to costings and procurement


- You will gain invaluable experience from a variety of our Head Chefs and Development Chefs through rotating around our sites for the duration of your apprenticeship. Site rotation will include time working in our Hotel restaurant, Rheged restaurant, our Central Production Unit and Bakery.


You will work approximately 37.25 hours per week over 5 days. We are a 24/7 business so your rota at times will include weekends and a mixture of early, day and late shifts. You will know your weekly rota in advance. There will be no split shifts. Our early shifts start at 7am, and our late shifts finish at 11pm.


We are looking for someone who wants to start their career as a Chef. The successful person will have a passion for fresh ingredients, food and cooking. You will need to be committed to learning new skills and motivated to succeed in a kitchen environment. You will need to be able to communicate well and be adaptable in a team situation.


Although there are no guarantees, we are a food business and would love to be able to retain our apprentice chefs once qualified in the Kitchen environment they have loved the most during your year study.


If you are 18 and over you will receive £7.50 per hour (rising to £7.70 after your first 12 weeks), 17 year olds will receive £6.40 per hour and 16 year olds will receive £6.12 per hour.
